A Ph.D. candidate in Urban & Regional Planning and Policy in the University of Sydney, Emily Yip is investigating how private developers in Australia respond to sustainability, and is focusing particularly on the drivers and barriers that developers face when implementing sustainable practices in residential development. She is awarded the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship and the International Postgraduate Award to pursue her Ph.D. degree in the university.

Prior to this, Emily was working as a Planner with the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the planning authority in Singapore. While working in the Strategic Planning Division, she has been involved in the review and gazette of the Master Plan 2003 - the statutory plan that guides Singapore's medium term development. She was also responsible for the assessment of planning proposals and handling public feedback for 2 planning areas with a combined area of more than 1800 ha. In addition, Emily has worked on a number of studies on planning policies and strategies in her role as planner.

Emily's education qualifications include a Master in Civil Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a 1st Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology (U.M.I.S.T) in the United Kingdom. She was a recipient of the Singapore Inc. Scholarship, a distinguished scholarship for undergraduate study sponsored by the Economic Development Board of Singapore.
