Meeting the Demand for Sustainable Buildings
The Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE
) at Stanford University and the Fisher Information Technology Center
at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley invite you to a one-day conference on 'Meeting the Demand for Sustainable Buildings'.
The conference will take place on September 9, 2008 on the campus of Stanford University.
Confirmed speakers include:
- David Winstead, Commissioner, GSA
- John Hennessy, President, Stanford University
- Thomas Carlsson, CEO, NCC
- Steve Selkowitz, Head, Building Technologies Department, Environmental Energy Technologies Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories
- Martin Fischer, Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering; Director, Center for Integrated Facility Engineering
This one-day conference will examine fundamental demand, science, engineering, and design issues for sustainable development and explore the opportunities for scientific, design, and engineering innovations to improve the structure of the industry as well as better address sustainability issues.
The conference is targeted for leading facility owners who require sustainable buildings to sustain their competitive advantage and for designers, engineers, builders, and scientists who want to extend their leadership in sustainable facility development by better combining science, design, and engineering knowledge and methods from multiple disciplines.
The sustainable fulfillment of the demand for modern buildings is a major challenge for most organizations. The specification, design, construction, and assessment of the performance of buildings against economic, environmental, and social goals is very difficult at best. New approaches to design, build, and maintain facilities and new scientific knowledge and design and engineering methods are required to meet the opportunities for sustainable facility development reliably.
Registration will be available via the CIFE website
early in the week of July 7.
