In what is believed to be a world-first on this scale for local government, Melbourne City Council's draft plan - Future Melbourne - is now available as an online wiki so that the community can comment, discuss and directly edit the draft plan.
Summary
In the past 20 years, Melbourne has transformed into a creative, vibrant and liveable city. In the next 20 years, Melbourne will become a more economically, socially, environmentally and culturally sustainable city through the help of a new long-term strategy - Future Melbourne. This plan is a strategy for the city's future that will affect everybody who visits, lives, invests and works in the municipality.
The six aims of the strategy are to make Melbourne a city for people, a prosperous city, an eco city, a knowledge city, a bold and inspirational city and a connected city.
From the many public forums, proposals, submissions and online discussions with the community during the past year, we now have a draft plan, which is open for public consultation until Saturday 14 June.
In what is believed to be a world-first on this scale for local government, the draft is now available as an online wiki so that the community can comment, discuss and directly edit the Future Melbourne draft plan at www.futuremelbourne.com.au
.
Councillor Catherine Ng, Chair of the Planning Committee, said she was excited by the use of the wiki.
"The Future Melbourne draft plan will challenge the public to visualise the type of city they want to live in, work and visit. Over the course of the public consultation process we want the community to explore the city as a canvas for sustainability projects, and create ideas for improvements on current and ideas for future initiatives," said Cr Ng.
You can also view a hardcopy of the draft plan or pick up a summary at City of Melbourne libraries, community centres, the Melbourne Town Hall and at the Future Melbourne art exhibition at Digital Harbour, Docklands.
