The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has launched a new rating tool to assess the interior of any building.

The Green Star Interiors PILOT rating tool will expand on the Green Star - Office Interiors v1.1 tool, but will apply to any building, regardless of type and function, or interior fit out.

The Green Star - Office Interiors v1.1 tool assessed use of natural light, fresh air, waste management, and low-emission materials.

ISIS group manager of quality, safety and sustainability, Josh Bruce, says the tool will also provide a platform for debate around whether the base building or the fit out has the biggest impact on tenancy performance.

“This is particularly relevant in the commercial office sector where the expectation is that new buildings will achieve a minimum 5 Star Green Star As Built rating under the Office v3 tool, but where tenancy ratings are still considered to be optional,” he says.

Green Star - Interiors is available now as a pilot tool. The GBCA is seeking expressions of interest from projects, particularly education, retail and hospitality, for testing.
