The GPT Group has been named the most sustainable real estate company in the 2012/2013 global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

The DJSI evaluates performance of the largest 2,500 companies listed on the Dow Jones.

It is based on an analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices.

GPT was named the leader in the real estate ‘super sector’.

“GPT’s approach to environmental sustainability has delivered significant savings to the Group since 2005,” says GPT CEO and managing director, Michael Cameron.

“We have reduced water intensity by 38 percent, energy intensity by 28 percent, carbon emission intensity by 36 percent and improved recycling rates from 29 percent to 49 percent. These efforts saw GPT avoid $15.9 million in costs."
