City of Sydney will install solar panels on major City-owned buildings, including libraries, depots and grandstands, across Sydney.

City of Sydney has nominated Solgen Energy to undertake the $6 million project to fit photovoltaic (PV) panels to more than 30 sites.

The PV installations will take place over the next two years. The solar panels will generate 12.5 percent of the City’s properties’ electricity needs.

Together panels will have total electrical capacity of more than 1250 kilowatt peak and cover 9000 sqm, making the project Australia’s biggest building-mounted solar PV program.

Buildings to have solar panels installed include Town Hall House, Redfern Oval grandstand, Railway Square Bus Interchange, Sydney Park Pavilion, towns halls in Paddington, Redfern and Glebe, plus libraries, community centres and Council depots.
