At Green Cities 2010, Property Council Chief Executive Peter Verwer called for the introduction of a national cities strategy - a masterplan for urban Australia.

Speaking at the largest and most influential green building conference in the Asia Pacific region, Verwer wrapped up the event and gazed into the future of Australia's built environment.

He outlined the shift in thinking detailing how the "green" discussion was now evolving as cities and urban spaces became the central theme in enhancing environmental performance.

A key theme outlined in his presentation was the need for "strategic pathways" that would provide opportunities to "re-write" and "re-boot" the nation's major cities.

He said the vision for Australia's cities needed to be the 5 Ds: decarbonised, digitised, decentralised, distributed and diverse.
